Vocabulary is an important part of the English language. It’s what helps us express ourselves, tell stories, and have meaningful conversations.
That’s why it’s so important to make sure your child is learning vocabulary.
But how do you do that? If you have a little one at home, they may not read yet, but there are still ways to help them learn unfamiliar words.
Here are some fun and interesting ways to help your child learn vocabulary.
Play With Their Imagination
There are so many fun ways you can play with your child’s imagination.
You can use puppets, or draw pictures for them and ask them questions about what they think the picture is about.
This helps them develop their own vocabulary as well as understand what certain words mean.
And you don’t have to limit yourself to the picture either; ask your child questions about things in their room or out in the yard too!
Their literacy skills will increase and they will become more interested in reading, which is a significant step in the right direction.
Listen To Stories
If you read stories with your child every day, they will develop a love for reading and learn more vocabulary along the way!
Reading with your child is also a great way to bond with them too!
Some great story books for children include: The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, The Cat In The Hat by Dr Seuss, Hop On Pop by Dr Seuss, and Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown.
Your local library will probably have tons of books that you can borrow as well! With them, your children’s reading skill and vocabulary can grow.

Play With Numbers and Magnetic Letters In Everyday Conversations
This is a great way to help your child learn numbers and letters. When you’re talking to them, point out letters and numbers on signs or on toys they have.
Ask them what they think those letters or numbers are and how they might sound. This is a great way to help them develop their vocabulary and their phonics skills!
Their story time is not the only time they should be reading. Reading to them every day is a great way to help them learn their letters and numbers.
You can also help them practice with flashcards or even play games like Simon Says.
Take Them To The Park
There are so many fun things for kids to do at the park that it’s hard not to want to go every day!
If you take your child to the park, not only will they get exercise, but they will also learn new words!
For example, if you see an airplane flying overhead, point it out and ask them what it is.
It also improves their social skills, as they can talk to others. If you have a shy child, it is important that they practice speaking with others in the park.
This will make them more confident when they go to school.
